Between March 28th and March 31st 2016, I visited Zermatt, home to one of the most beautiful, iconic and fearsome mountains in the World: The Matterhorn. At 4478m, it towers over the village - standing proud in a vast arena of 4000m summits. The last of the great alpine peaks to be conquered, its first ascent in 1865 ended the golden age of alpinism. The ascent was overshadowed by tragedy, as all but three of the seven who summited survived the descent.

The episode shows various winter hikes around the region, some of the incredible train and cable car journeys and a very special helicopter flight to the Matterhorn itself.
